Ultrasonic Thickness Estimation using Cross-Correlation and Phase-Shift

چکیده
In this paper the cross-correlation and phase-shift techniques are used for material thickness estimation. The cross-correlation is used to measure the time a transmitted signal takes to arrive at the receiver or the time between two successive received signals (multiple echoes). Whereas the phase-shift technique measures the time delay (less than a sine wave period) between transmitted and received sine waves. Combination of the correlation and the phase-shift techniques is also employed in this paper. The thickness is then estimated from the measured times and the ultrasonic waves speed in the material under test.

Application of Model-Based Estimation to Time-Delay Estimation of Ultrasonic Testing Signals
Time-Delay-Estimation (TDE) has been a topic of interest in many applications in the past few decades. The emphasis of this work is on the application of model-based estimation (MBE) for TDE of ultrasonic signals used in ultrasonic thickness gaging. Ultrasonic thickness gaging is based on precise measurement of the time difference between successive echoes which reflect back from the back wall ...
متن کامل2D ultrasonic elastography with lateral displacement estimation using statistics.
Ultrasound elastography is the method of obtaining relative stiffness information of biological tissue, which plays an important role in early diagnosis. Generally, a gradient-based strain imaging algorithm assumes that motion only occurs in an axial direction. However, because tissue has different relative stiffness, the scatter presents lateral motion under high freehand compression. Therefor...

In technical processes very often signals are generated which are complex modulated and superposed by stochastic disturbances or noise. A typical example is an ultrasonic wave passing a streaming fluid perpendicularly which is complex modulated by stochastically distributed turbulences. The signal can be demodulated digitally by undersampling to separate the narrow sidebands. The complex modula...
متن کاملEstimation of PSD Shifts for High-Resolution Metrology of Thickness Micro-Changes with Possible Applications in Vessel Walls and Biological Membrane Characterization
Achieving accurate measurements of inflammation levels in tissues or thickness changes in biological membranes (e.g., amniotic sac, parietal pleura) and thin biological walls (e.g., blood vessels) from outside the human body, is a promising research line in the medical area. It would provide a technical basis to study the options for early diagnosis of some serious diseases such as hypertension...
